Biomanufacturing, in the world of design and fashion, is born from the need to seek more sustainable solutions for today’s industry. Fashion, as we all know, is the second most polluting and for years it has been urgently asking for a change in the way we produce and consume.
This flourishing movement, where professionals and artists have created innovative fabrics, machines and products in favor of more sustainable fashion, the result of long research, has demonstrated how closely connected sustainability is with innovation. The future of fashion must be the result of a deep analysis of what was in the past, what is in the present and the good use of the discoveries and advances made to create an environmentally and socially balanced industry for the future.
ON the first day we will focus on creating our new 100% natural and biodegradable “fabrics”, studying their qualities and possibilities. We will discuss recipes, tricks, ideas and propose a challenge for each group to develop. From then on everything will be experimenting, researching and creating. The groups will have two days to propose a piece/volume applicable to the body following the guidelines of the challenge assigned to them. In this way, at the end of the workshop we will be able to see different examples and the possibilities that these new materials offer us, sharing experience and knowledge for future projects.
Paula UlarguiIn recent years, she has worked focused on researching innovative, alternative and, of course, sustainable fabrics that can be implemented in the world of fashion. To this end, she has directed, among other studies, a research project that focuses on the study, creation and implementation of bio-plastics in haute couture, using digital design techniques.
He believes it is time to look for new answers for the fashion industry. The future we are heading towards involves integrating different disciplines of art and science so that new solutions emerge from their fusion.
