Venue: LABoral Centre for Art and Industrial Creation
Time: 7.00 pm | Free admission
LABoral is hosting two talks as part of the 2026 Future and Technology Conference, in collaboration with the Municipal Foundation for Culture, Education and Adult Education of Gijón/Xixón City Council, which is organising this event as part of its science outreach programme ‘Gijón con Ciencia’.
Generative artificial intelligence (GAI) has established itself as a disruptive tool for digital creation, thanks to software such as ChatGPT, Midjourney and Dall-e. During this event, we will explore, through practical case studies, how AI is transforming the artistic landscape, opening up new possibilities for creation and pushing the boundaries of the imagination.
The programme will feature the lecture The Place the Algorithm Imagines: Body, Territory and Future Habitability, by Diego Díaz:
Can artificial intelligence anticipate where we will find refuge from the climate to come? In this lecture, we will analyse the uncertain space where data, the body and territory become prediction. Where the algorithm imagines habitable futures, art transforms those forecasts into questions about shelter, survival and the future.
Diego Díaz is an artist, researcher and lecturer at the Universitat Jaume I. Since 2000, he has been working alongside Clara Boj on projects that critically explore the relationships between art, technology and public space. His recent practice investigates personal data, artificial intelligence, predictive identity and speculative futures, whilst also addressing the transformations of territory and habitability in the context of climate change. www.lalalab.org
