Editatona by Asturian artists

Which female artists from Asturias should be on Wikipedia but aren’t yet?

25 April 2026

On 25 April from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, at LABoral Centro de Arte, we will be hosting the event ‘Asturian Women’s Edit-a-thon’, organised by Wikiesfera and funded by the Ministry of Culture as part of the project ‘Creating free knowledge communities with a feminist focus’.

What is an edit-a-thon?

An edit-a-thon, or editing marathon, is a collaborative activity aimed at creating and improving content on Wikipedia, reducing the gender gap and raising awareness of women’s contributions to history, culture and society.

On this occasion, the event will focus on creating and translating articles about Asturian women artists, in both Spanish and Asturian, helping to expand their presence on Wikipedia and recognise their work in the cultural sphere. During the session, we will work on both practical aspects of editing and the publication of content, in a space for collective learning and support.

This activity marks a milestone as it is Wikiesfera’s first edit-a-thon in Gijón and forms part of the drive to support local editing communities. It aims to build on the work begun in Asturias, strengthening the local WikiAsturianes editors’ group, which took its first steps in February 2025, and fostering the creation of an active network committed to free knowledge with a gender perspective.

Who can take part?

This edit-a-thon is open to anyone interested in raising the profile of Asturian women artists’ lives and contributions on Wikipedia. No prior knowledge is required, but you must bring your own laptop.

The event will take place at the Archive of Asturian Artists at LABoral Centro de Arte.

About Wikiesfera

Wikiesfera is a group of Wikimedia users founded in 2015 by the journalist and activist Patricia Horrillo, during her time as a mediator-researcher at Medialab-Prado in the 2014–2015 academic year. This space, dedicated to collaborative documentation using semantic wiki technology, was created to make this powerful tool accessible to anyone interested in recounting and documenting events. Since its inception, the group has sought to help overcome the fears many people feel when approaching a wiki environment, as well as to highlight the value of individual contributions to the collective narration of history.
