How does Christmas sound?
On December 1, LABoral Centro de Arte will be the meeting point for the first event of the Expedición Sonora CSIC X+. In this unique context, music and science come together to offer an unparalleled sound-science experience. The programme will include a talk by musicians Lorena Álvarez, Depedro and Carlangas (from Novedades Carminha), together with oceanographer Raquel Somavilla from the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO-CSIC), who will talk about life at the poles and marine ecosystems. This event will be held at 12:00 noon in the LABoral Centro de Arte space, and will be free of charge with prior invitation.
Expedición Sonora is a series of meetings between artists and scientists from the CSIC that will tour several cities in Spain, and whose stop in Gijón will be the first of a tour that will include Zaragoza, Madrid and Granada. Each of these meetings will take the form of a ‘radio show’, combining scientific dissemination and live musical performances. Through them, the public will be able to discover the sounds of Christmas and learn about the impact of climate change on the poles and oceans.
This event is part of CSIC X+, a series of activities promoted by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) to promote scientific dissemination in an entertaining and participatory way. In addition, for children, there will be a Polar Expedition at the National Museum of Natural Sciences (MNCN-CSIC) in Madrid, which will allow children to explore the Arctic and Antarctica through educational and scientific activities.
Registration from 23 November, from 9:00 a.m. until full capacity is reached.
