#GreenCampus Junior

A children’s camp organised by LABoral Centro de Arte and ECOLEC that highlights the importance of recycling

6 July — 10 July 2026

From 6 to 10 July, from 9.30 am to 2 pm, LABoral Centre for Art and Industrial Creation is organising the #GreenCampus Junior summer camp, an educational initiative aimed at children aged between 8 and 12.

This camp is free of charge and aims to raise awareness of the importance of recycling, specifically the reuse of electronic waste as an essential practice within a model of responsible consumption.

The workshops will be led by artists whose practice focuses on reuse and sustainability, professionals who regularly work with recycled materials and obsolete technologies:

  • Cristina Busto, a multidisciplinary artist from Asturias who stands out for combining analogue and digital art in her work.
  • Alejandro Fuertes, an artist and PhD in Creation and Research in Contemporary Art, whose thesis analyses the connotations of solid urban waste as artistic material today.
  • Alex Martínez, a cultural mediator and manager who promotes cultural initiatives connecting communities, institutions and artists, and who, in his #GreenCampus Junior workshop, will use radio and audio to connect with and create links to electronic devices and waste.

The camp will run for a full week and will include four days of workshops, from Monday to Thursday, with Friday set aside for a debriefing session and presentation of results. The closing session on Friday will be open to the public and will provide an opportunity to share the processes and results with families, thereby strengthening the community aspect of the project and broadening its reach.

Workshops and registration

  • Workshop by Alejandro Fuertes

Alejandro Fuertes presents a creative workshop inspired by medieval bestiaries, those ancient illustrated books that brought together real animals and fantastical creatures. Drawing on this visual tradition, and comparing it with contemporary artistic projects such as Joan Fontcuberta’s ‘Fauna’, the workshop proposes creating a bestiary of species assembled from electronic waste. Hybrid beings which, like monsters, challenge the natural order. Each participant will create one or more works that will ultimately form part of a collective installation designed to generate critical visual thinking about waste and nature.

  • Workshop by Alex Martínez

What became of the Discman and the stereo systems? What became of the VHS and DVD players? What messages travel through LABoral’s wiring, and what gossip do the lights and the Art Centre’s electrical system hear? In a rapidly advancing world that discards everything deemed obsolete, electronic waste and devices can be guardians of personal stories, havens for many secrets, and archives of an era.

This week, we will explore how to develop an emotional connection to certain electronic waste that has fallen out of use and lost its purpose, whilst also raising awareness and using our imagination to consider how we relate to all the electronics that still serve a function. We will use radio and audio—electronic tools, in fact—to connect with and forge links to electronic devices and waste.

  • Workshop by Cristina Busto

This workshop begins with an introductory phase in which participants will take a playful approach to the world of recycling, exploring different materials and discovering how creativity can transform everyday objects into new creations brimming with possibilities.

In the second part, they will create an animated film using the objects made during the workshop. Among the planned activities is the construction of an insect hotel using recycled materials. The audiovisual creation process will serve to investigate and raise awareness of the life, habits and importance of insects in the ecosystem.

Each participant may sign up for only one of the three workshops. Click here to register for any of them:
