On 16 June at 6.30 pm, art historian Clara More, who specialises in art criticism and cultural communication, will be at LABoral Centro de Arte to present her latest book: Nos recordarán. Una mirada LGTBIQ+ al arte de todos los tiempos (They Will Remember Us: An LGTBIQ+ Perspective on Art Through the Ages).
The event, which is free of charge but requires prior registration, will consist of a presentation open to the public followed by a discussion with the author, exploring the ways in which gender non-conformity has shaped the history of art and contemporary creation.
Art isn’t as straight as you were told
It is said that art is everyone’s home, although for centuries those who did not conform to the standards were excluded. This book shows how the LGTBIQ+ community has transformed the world through the arts from its beginnings to the present day.
With each chapter inspired by a different colour of the rainbow flag, Clara More explores the work of artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec, Rubens, Hilma af Klimt and Natalie Barney, and their impact on sexuality, dissidence, health, pride, spirituality and racism throughout history. Combining visual arts, photography and sculpture, Nos recordarán highlights the ability to create, resist and shine beyond labels and scandals.
For anyone who has ever felt like they didn’t fit in, who has sought role models, and who has loved outside the mainstream. It’s for you, who want to look at art through different eyes.
