La Société Automatique: Flags

Flags serve as emblems of both identification and rallying. Their colours, shapes and patterns are often coded, carrying collective memory or shared narratives. They can either unite or divide, depending on who is flying them and who is watching them.

The flags of La Société Automatique displayed on the iMAL façade blend symbols and diagrams from the robotics industry together with representations of human organs.

In a world where automation is reshaping the visible and invisible boundaries of power, these hallmarks of a new age prompt us to reflect on the place of humans, from their disappearance in production lines to the algorithmisation of decision-making processes. This issue permeates the entire exhibition that these flags introduce.
