Mixed media on fibreglass with structure
Paula Blanco shares Goethe’s fascination with the search for unity among the forms of nature. Like the German polymath, who believed in the existence of a protoplanta or Urpflanze, the Asturian artist explores this idea of underlying unity in her work. This purpose leads her to tread unique paths in which research into the use of diverse materials and techniques is a constant. This study has allowed her to develop her own method, characterised by the use of glass fibres and pigments with which the creator manages to illuminate veils of colour of great beauty and lyricism. These translucent sheets are sometimes accompanied by evocative structures made by Blanco herself, from which ambiguous beings resembling plants or insects are generated. On other occasions, these are projected as a kind of tonal curtain, highly attractive and light, connecting with a whole series of mineral and vegetal resonances that are certainly linked to the natural world but which, at the same time, maintain a great pictorial charge.
The works exhibited here is based on the project carried out during her residency, for which the artist observed different types of plants and their natural development, enabling her to create a series of pieces whose shape, colour and composition represented a tangible hypothesis or plastic model of the Urpflanze or primal plant theorised by Goethe.
