Hugo Martínez-Tormo (Valencia, Spain, 1979). Agricultural Engineer and graduate in Fine Arts, with a Master’s degree in Multimedia and Visual Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and Interface Culture in Linz, Austria. Thanks to his scientific and artistic training, his work focuses on the relationship between art, science, ecology and technology, addressing issues such as environmental problems and the human tendency towards self-destruction. Always from a critical perspective, he makes use of interactive, audiovisual, electronic, mechanical and acoustic installations, among others, as well as painting, sculpture, video and photography, among other means of expression, as a New Media and Multidisciplinary artist.
He has shown and exhibited his work in both solo and group exhibitions, winning several awards and honourable mentions, both in Spain and abroad. These include the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz (Austria), the BBVA Foundation Leonardo Grant for Researchers and Cultural Creators (Spain), the Spanish Cultural Centre in Mexico (Mexico), LABoral in Gijón (Spain), Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporánea in Valencia (Spain), Banco de España in Tarragona, Medol.cat (Spain), Amber Festival in Istanbul (Turkey), Digital Art Biennale NFC (Poland), Espacio Enter in Tenerife (Spain), IKAS_Art in Bilbao (Spain), Art in the City in Mainz (Germany) and the Incubarte Festival in Valencia (Spain), among others.
