A.L.M.A.

17 August 2020 – 17 September 2020

It is difficult to date the beginning of A·L·M·A as a musical proposal. Pedro Pablo Bazán (Gijón, 1978), hidden under an enigmatic name-acronym, began to devise his own musical commitment that would represent a shock in the current musical panorama, while attempting to advance a step in the musical field.

From there came ‘Invierno Totalitario’, an album of 8 tracks released by ‘Grabaciones Perdidas’ in 2019.

For live performances, he has on stage Raúl T. Andrés (Gijón, 1976), composer and producer of electronic music who has participated or participates in different individual projects: ‘The IT Boy’ and collectives, including ‘Lego My Ego’ or ‘We are robots’ and has performed in different spaces such as the L.E.V. or the ‘Silver Bullet’.

In the words of writer and editor Servando Rocha:

..It is very complicated to sound like (almost) nothing recognizable, a kind of ignition zero point. A·L·M·A have done the same thing, camouflaged behind a project that can boast of having emerged with unprecedented strength.

The musical pieces seem designed as if they were manifestos of rage towards alienation, but with a type of everyday and, therefore, constant domination and control.

Project in residence

‘Invierno Totalitario Live’ is the translation into live format of the album ‘Invierno Totalitario’ by the group A•L•M•A, released by Grabaciones Perdidas/Gran Sol in 2019. The varied and complex instrumentation present in the album and The sound disparity of the pieces present in it requires an innovative adaptation to the live format, which will be done with the use of new technologies, both in the sound field (creation/recreation/adaptation of musical bases) and in the visual (staging/lighting).

Starting from a concept that breaks canons and confronts the public, based in part on the theoretical enumerations described by Antonin Artaud in ‘The Theater and its Double’, lighting and sound go hand in hand, trying to discover new forms of interaction with the public, this is why it is important to develop the proposal, counting not only on the musicians present on stage, but also on the sound and lighting technicians.

Project selected in the call for artistic residencies 2020.
