Sonia Gómez

Dancer and Performer, lives and works in Barcelona.

Sonia Gómez studied Contemporary Dance and Choreography at the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona and at P.A.R.T.S, Brussels, Belgium. She has worked with General Eléctrica, La Carnicería Teatro and La Fura dels Baus and collaborated with Joan Morey, Juanjo Sáez, Chicks on speed, among others.

Since 2004 she has created her own shows: Trilogía Egomotion, 2004; Mi madre y yo, 2004; Las Vicente matan a los hombres, 2006 with Rosa Vicente Gargallo, mother of Sonia Gómez; Bass, concierto para animales, 2005 at l’Espai, Barcelona; I will never stop dancing, 2005; Natural2, 2006 at Mercat de les Flors, Barcelona; Madrid, HAB 303′, 2007; Experiencias con un desconocido, 2007 at the Festival LP de danza o no…, Barcelona.

Currently on tour with Experiencias con un desconocido Show, FAD Sebástià Gasch Award, 2007 of the Paratheatrical Arts, CAER-Reus/Mercat de les Flors, Barcelona and Award to the most innovative show on tour 2009 Feria Internacional/Huesca 2010 and with the proposal for family audiences OFFvsON Festival MónLlibre’11, Barcelona. He is preparing for the 2011/2012 season the new stage project Moviments Polítics.

Danza Infinita (Homenaje a Henrietta Lacks)

Artist-in-residence commissioned by Lorena Lozano for Danza Infinita (Homenaje a Henrietta Lacks), one of the winning projects of the call for Asturian artists of the ‘Oficina de Proyectos’.

An audiovisual work that aims to open a reflection on the politics, rights and ownership of the body and the advances in medical and biological research, and to pay homage to Henrietta Lacks (involuntary donor of cells from a cervical carcinoma in 1951, which gave rise to the first permanent human cell line)…
