Shu Lea Cheang

New media artist, specialized in video edition and internet.

As a new media artist, Cheang has engaged in networked installation and performance since mid-90s.  She was the first net artist commissioned by Guggenheim Museum New York for BRANDON (1998-1999), a one year web narrative project.  Her Locker Baby Project, Including Baby Play (2001, exhibited at NTT[ICC] Tokyo, Baby Love (2005, exhibited at Palais de Tokyo and travels to USA, Australia, Taiwan and Norway) and Baby Work (2012), employs clone baby to negotiate human ME (Memory/Emotion) data. Her feature film I.K.U. was commercially released in cinema houses, also well received in museum screenings. (shown at Reina Sofia in 2001).  Cheang is visionary in drafting sci-fi narratives for her art works. Her design of interface focuses on social/public/body interaction that goes beyond computer keyboards.  She is well recognized in gender/tech/post-porn studies.

The UKI project was first developed at Hangar medialab in 2009 with further viral game development at

La Casa Encendida (Madrid) and Medialab Prado (Madrid).
