Ron Arad

Professor

Ron Arad was born in 1951 in Tel Aviv. He studied at the Art Academy in Jerusalem and at the Architectural Association in London. In 1981, Arad founded, together with Caroline Thorman, the company One Off Ltd in London, which produced non-conventional artisan furniture mainly from sheets of bent and welded steel with a distinctly sculptural look to them. In 1989, Arad founded Ron Arad Associates Ltd with Alison Brooks, a Canadian architect. At the end of the 1980s he also designed furniture and objects for production in series. In 1994 he opened the Ron Arad studio in Como. Between 1994 and 1997 he was an invited lecturer in Product Design at Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst in Vienna. Since 1997 Arad is also working as a professor for Furniture and Product Design at the Royal College of Art in London.
