Pedro Menchaca. Tour Mallets

18 January 2016 – 03 April 2016

Tour Mallets arises from the idea of three musicians from Gijón (Pedro Menchaca, Diego López, Aníbal Menchaca) to create an audiovisual piece around the world of the bicycle, using as main instruments pieces of the same, in addition to other more conventional ones, combined with visuals related to the world of the two wheels and its evolution through the times, accompanying the viewer on a journey of experimental but also playful and carefree character.

Pedro Menchaca (Gijón, 1977) Self-taught guitarist, he has been part of groups like Senogul (with whom he has released three albums), Killing Zoe, Cuac! or Sr. Mutt, among others. He is currently a member of the Ensemble Improviso (free improvisation), and the duo “Antón Menchaca” (Asturian post-tonada) He regularly collaborates as a musician in performances, art installations and poetry recitals, in addition to occasionally composing soundtracks for short films. In 2016 he participates, along with Anibal Menchaca and Diego G. Uruñuela in an artistic residency at Laboral, which results in the concert “Tour Mallets”, premiered at Laboral on April 1, and with which they participate in the MEM festival in Bilbao that same year. He is also host of the weekly program “Vericuetos” on Radio Kras, dedicated to experimental music, as well as organizer of the festival of the same name, whose fourth edition will take place in May 2017 in different parts of Gijón.

Aníbal Menchaca (Gijón, 1981), musician and dilettante, never learned certain things. Instead he made soundtracks for short films (Humo, 2011 and Pera, 2013, which he also directed). And although as God is his witness that he would never go hungry again, he is mainly dedicated to music (he has recorded a dozen albums with several Asturian bands) and film sound. He has also published a collection of poems, Circunscipción de la Garrapata (Suburbia, 2015).

Diego López Uruñuela is a young man from Avilés who during his work as a clerk in a sports store discovers the effect caused by the vibrations of bicycle bells on the behavior of customers and other mammals. As a result of his study, he came up with the idea of merging two of his great passions: music and sport.
