Paul B. Davis

Artist

(EE.UU./United Kingdom)

Davis was the founder, along with Joe Beuckman, Cory Arcangel and Joseph Bonn, of the Beige programming collective. In the late 1990s, while still in college, Davis became the forerunner of video game cartridge hacking as an artistic practice. His work hacking a Nintendo cartridge was first presented in 2000. Subsequently, Beige members used the hacked Nintendo Entertainment Systems (NES) content to create a unique body of work that has been exhibited around the world. Davis was also the creator of The Beige Cassette Jockey Championships, the world’s only tape performance competition, and is the only DJ to have been banned from the stage for performing as a “DJ Spin-Laden” in the Technics/DMC World DJ Championships. Recent projects include solo shows in London, Milan and Chicago, where he has played music and formed a fantastic duo with DJ LeDeuce [Thrill Jockey], known as The Potions, and played DJ sets in the lift of the Akademie der Kunste in Berlin. He is currently a lecturer in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College and is working on his PhD. He also produces beats for St. Louis rapper “Wonton”.
