Meraki Cia.

1 April 2017 – 30 June 2017

Meraki Cia. is an emerging company of contemporary and urban dance, based in Asturias, Spain, and composed of dancers from different disciplines, whose goal is the search for a common language.

Meraki, from the Greek μεράκι, refers to “the soul, creativity or love put into something; the essence of oneself put into the work”.
As a collective, Lucas García, who comes from bboying, and Paula Castañón, who comes from hip hop and contemporary dance, try to investigate the exchange between those disciplines. Analyzing their similarities and differences in their approach to movement, their intention is to create their own innovative vocabulary.

Project in residence

Amalgama

The dance company Meraki performs a residency at LABoral to produce their piece Amalgama, where they address the union between flamenco, contemporary dance and urban dance, a dialogue that aims to break the boundaries between these disciplines. In this way a conversation is created between the different constructions of each performer, producing a language, where, while preserving the essence, the pure origin of the movement is no longer recognized exactly.
