María Mieres and Covadonga del Campo (La Cueva Estudio)

1 April 2023 – 31 July 2023

María Mieres (1989, Avilés) formed the group San Jerónimo in 2015 with Nacho Iglesias. Her artistic work is divided into two strata. On the one hand, electronic pop/folk format recordings under albums such as “Salinas, 20:15” or “The South” where there are references to groups such as Jessy Lanza, Beach House or Mazzy Star and in which she has had collaborations with artists such as Rodrigo Cuevas, Jero Romero or I am Drive. On the other hand, the sound design for installations within the Professional Art Week or the White Night of Oviedo working in collaboration with artists such as Mikha.ez or Inés Iglesias (Pintaycolorea/Los Patos) or the MaXXI museum in Rome together with the architects Space Popular.

Cova Del Campo (1985, Gijón), trained as an advertiser and graphic designer, in 2017 decided to set up her own design studio, La Cueva Studio, as a place for personal experimentation, initially focusing on ceramic work and research. Currently, she combines workshop work with participation in artistic residencies in centers such as AADK Spain, Factoría Cultural Avilés or Creta Ceramics in Rome, as well as carrying out collaborations in installations and exhibitions.

Project: The Elliptical Shadow

Activity promoted and financed by Regional Ministry of Culture, Language Policy and Tourism.

Project in residence

The project La Sombra Elíptica studies the beauty and purity of shadows in a visual and sound installation. It is about “remastering” a soundscape to offer it, ultimately, as a multisensory experience through a journey in which light and sound ride hand in hand to take the viewer into a hypnotic experience. Dreamy synthesizers and rhythm boxes transport us to a parallel universe where the music pushes us to let ourselves be embraced by delicate and infinite beams of light. A sound map nourished by digital and organic sounds coming from glass and water, which are the primary elements of this project.

Project selected in the I Call for Artistic Residences 2023.
