Manuel Persa

Graphic designer and multimedia artist

After graduating as a graphic designer from the Higher School of Art of the Principality of Asturias (ESAPA) in 2007, he began his professional career in several studios as a graphic designer, but he soon became interested in other artistic disciplines, which led him to continue training, this one time in Barcelona, where he studied the Master in Multimedia Design at the Escola Superior de Disseny i Enginyeria (ELISAVA) in 2009. There he began to experience the materiality of graphic design, through multimedia and interaction technologies.

Between 2010 and 2018 he worked in different design studios as an art director for multimedia and animation projects for advertising, video clips and events. Since then, he has been developing his professional experience in his own studio, Volumínica, specializing in brand design and conceptual strategy with a focus on avant-garde and sustainable solutions, while at the same time creating a production line around digital craftsmanship in Laboratorio Biomimetic.

With a marked maker and self-taught character, he has complemented his curiosity with training in various techniques such as origami for structural designs on paper, additive manufacturing or the creation of bioplastics, also in traditional techniques such as construction with cebatu and basket weaving. He has been selected and participated in various design and sustainability programs such as “Circular Prototype” of the Biodiversity Foundation and Ecoembes; “Circular Weekend” by Enviroo and Gijón IMPULSA; and the “3D Printing based on Nature Patterns” Classroom at the University of Oviedo, thanks to which he began his research in the science of biomimicry. Throughout these years he has collaborated as a speaker and evaluator in different events, he has been awarded on different occasions and his projects have been part of exhibitions.
