Kathleen Forde

Curator of Active Presence and Artistic Director

External Artistic Director, since spring 2012, of Borusan Contemporary, an Istanbul-based foundation dedicated to the collection and exhibition of contemporary art, she works from New York and Turkey also as an independent curator. Between 2005 and 2012, she was Chief Curator of the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. EMPAC, which opened in October 2008, is dedicated to the presentation and production of multidisciplinary work, ranging from new media installation to experimental performance. Previously, Kathleen Forde was Chief Curator of Live Arts and New Media at the Goethe Institut Internationale in Berlin and Munich, and held this position in conjunction with an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship (2002-2003). As associate curator and then assistant curator of media art at SFMOMA (1999-2002) she co-curated the major interdisciplinary exhibition 010101 Art in Technological Times, as well as working on the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. She has also curated and written freelance texts for events and institutions such as Eyebeam Center for Art and Technology, Independent Curators International; ATA Cultural, Peru; Dusseldorf Kunstverein; Cologne Kunstverein; and Philadelphia Museum of Art.
