Due to technological development and the democratisation of images, our society has become accustomed to representing reality, even more than to experiencing reality itself. All of this, together with the birth of the internet and the growth of social networks, means that contemporary society relates to each other through the consumption of images. The spectacle in this case is transferred to the way reality is represented through a deformation of it. ‘The decline of being into having, and of having into simply appearing’.

Through the deformation and analogue animation of super 8mm home movies that she has collected over the years and using a subsequent montage, the reflection and experimentation is based mainly on the process of the dis-identification of the self. The artist aims to immerse the viewer in an objective reflection that positions him or her within the concept of the active spectator.

Due to the technological development and the democratization of images, our society is used to portray reality, even more than living in it. All of this, which is also connected to the birth of the internet and the growth of social media, leads today´s society to connect with each other through the consumption of images.

In this case the show tries to move away from the representation of reality by twisting it, with the use of analogic distortion and animation of domestic super 8mm films, which have been collected over the years and make use of a later montage. The meditation and experimentation is based on the de-identification of the being. The artist hopes to submerge the viewer in an objective reflection, positioning him/her as an active viewer.

Untitled is one of the selected projects in the Call for Artistic Residences 2018
