Harry Dodge & Stanya Kahn

Artists

Born in the USA, in 1966 and 1968, respectively.

Harry Dodge & Stanya Kahn are two Los Angeles-based artists whose work together began in 2001. In their video performance works, Dodge and Kahn confront the alienation and violence of contemporary American life with an absurd sense of humour. The narratives of the videos created collaboratively by the two artists inhabit the urban landscape of Los Angeles, which is as much about the everyday as it is about the post-apocalyptic. In their performances, imbued with deliberately deadpan humour and unfolding as elliptical narratives, Dodge and Kahn imbue their sinister visions of early 21st century America with wit, horror and longing.

Harriet “Harry” Dodge and Stanya Kahn were born in San Francisco in 1966 and 1968 respectively. They have exhibited their work in solo exhibitions at Elizabeth Dee Gallery, New York, and in a number of group shows, including exhibitions at the Kunstmuseum Bonn; Contemporary Art Centre, Vilnius; the 2008 Whitney Biennial, New York; The Getty Center, Los Angeles; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; and the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York; but also at festivals such as Sundance Film Festival, Park City, Utah; New York Underground Film Festival; London Lesbian/Gay International Film Festival; and San Francisco International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival.
