Virtual Reality Experience

This immersive reality experience takes us to the Svalvard Seed Bank in Norway, a huge, armoured refrigerator, built in former coal mines, where edible plant seeds from all corners of the globe are stored at -18°C.

Based on the real plans of the bunker, the work reproduces all its interiors exactly… but without seeds. A fictional gesture with which the artists imagine that the seeds have been stolen by the agro-industrial multinationals, more concerned with their business than with the survival of the species.

In a hidden room, the voice of the last human being is heard: The Beep of the Soul is his solitary poem. Without reaching that stage, it is true that the real camera holds with difficulty its promise of a contemporary Noah’s Ark.

The entrance was flooded in 2016 when the permafrost, which should protect its temperature even in the event of a power failure, began to melt. The Svalbard archipelago, in the Arctic Ocean, is paradoxically one of the places in the world where climate change is having the greatest impact.
