Gilberto Esparza

Born in Aguascalientes, México, 1975

Gilberto Esparza studied visual arts at the University of Guanajuato and at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia, Spain. He is currently working with organisms and systems combining high and low technology using industrial waste to intervene in the public space. Esparza has had many solo and group exhibitions in Mexico and worldwide. He took part in Festival Lascas, un arte mexicano actual, Quebec; KM0 artists workshop, Bolivia. VideoBrasil Electronic Art Festival, and Transitio Mx International Electronic Arts and Video Festival, Mexico. He recently had work on view in the Mercosur Biennial and at the Petit Mal exhibition at Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo de la UNAM. Esparza has had a scholarship from the Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, and won the Vida 09 award for IberoAmerican production from Fundación Telefónica, Spain. Together with Marcela Armas, he led the VIDA 10 workshops at Fundación Telefónica centres in Lima, Buenos Aires, Santiago and Mexico City. Esparza has taken part on various occasions in CENART Multimedia Centre’s programme supporting production and research in art and media.
