Florian Hecker

Sound artist

Born in Augsburg, Germany, 1975. Lives and works in Vienna.

Florian Hecker’s work discards all formal habits embedded in our listening patterns. In this process, computer- generated sounds evolve into a phantasmagoria of acoustic impressions where spatial movement and psychoacoustic phenomena intertwine. For this same reason, conventional music terminology would be too limited for any form of categorization.

Florian Hecker has given numerous international audio presentations and recent solo exhibitions include: MMK-Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt am Main; IKON Gallery, Birmingham; and Chisenhale Gallery, London, all in 2010. His latest full length solo compact disc Acid in the Style of David Tudor has been released by Editions Mego in 2009. Blackest Ever Black, a collaboration with Russell Haswell using Xenakis’ unique UPIC system during their research at the Centre for Composition of Music Iannis Xenakis (CCMIX) in Paris, has been released by Warner Classics in 2007. Most recently, NEU CD, a collaboration with Peter Saville, and 3 Track 12” have been published in 2010.
