Fernando Gutiérrez and .tape.

30 January 2012 – 04 February 2012

Fernando Gutiérrez holds a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca, and has developed most of his artistic activity from pictorial premises. In recent years his production has revolved around drawing, which he chose to recover for its simplicity and immediacy, experimenting with different procedures and techniques that ultimately incorporate collage as a working process and animation as a visual support.

At present, the structure of his proposals has a marked provisional character, as he works in different site-specific projects, altering spaces and transforming them temporarily into mental landscapes by means of enfolding graphic interventions that organise emotional, sensual and at times playful atmospheres.

Fernando Gutiérrez has been featured in numerous individual and collectiveexhibitions and participated in various shows curated by institutions. His work can be found in public and private collections, including those of Cajastur, Junta de Castilla y León, the Spanish Embassy in Senegal, the Spanish Embassy in Qatar or the Spanish Consulate in Japan.

Daniel Romero has spent over 15 years exploring electronic music and multimedia art. Under the name of “.tape.” (aka dot tape dot), he has released records in Spain (Spa.rk), Japan (Nature Bliss), United States (Other Electricities), France (Optical Sound & Aspic Records, Eglantine Records) and Germany (Mira Recs). Since 2003 he leads the ambulatore.com collective and directs the mini net label yoyo pang! He has presented sound installations and audiovisual performances worldwide and in 2008 began to compose music for plays directed by Rodrigo García (Versus, Esto es así…) or John Romao/Colectivo84 (Morro como país, horror).
At present he collaborates and works with artists from various fields, including Fernando Gutiérrez and Aroah (Irene Tremblay), and is a member of La Bisogno, a cultural association for the promotion of sound art, free software and social inclusion. Also, since 2009 he is co-director along with that association of radiadora.org, a free radio station aimed at young people, where he directs a sound art programme called Albatros.

Project in residence

Rapsodia

The Asturian artists Fernando Gutiérrez and Daniel Romero, under the name Fernando Gutiérrez + .tape., have been selected to carry out an artistic intervention at the ABC newspaper stand at ARCO 2012, which will be held in Madrid between February 15 and 19 next

Through a residency at Platform 0, the artists will carry out the necessary technical tests to launch their work.

RhapsodyIt is an immersive proposal that combines sound with drawing. Rapsodia generates a hypnotic world where its inhabitants spend their lives dancing to a lullaby. As the dance weaves, their bodies collide; A slight touch causes mutations and small accidents transfigure their organisms. This friction encourages their reproduction and, sometimes, they multiply by spontaneous generation, expanding genetic diversity. With each encounter or alteration, harmonic sounds are emitted, establishing a random musical composition with unpredictable results. The same thing happens when they reach the limits of their habitat.
