Moreda de Aller, 1954. Lives and works in Oviedo

Endowed with great energy and with great interest in continually experimenting, Encarna Díaz Velasco has been exhibiting her work throughout Europe and America for 41 years. His inspiration arises in any area where he finds himself, society, nature and the constant travels that serve as inspiration, all of this encompasses his artistic career. Asturias is his homeland (Moreda de Aller), that was where he experimented for the first time , at the age of 6, with sculpture, perhaps influenced by her paternal grandfather who was an artisan and carved stone and wood or by her father, who gave her a small knife to carve a wolf’s head on a talcum stone, and his mother who gave him everything he needed to develop in the artistic world at his fingertips. From that moment she began to love everything related to art. For family reasons, her adolescence developed in Valladolid, where she married and studied at the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Trades. At age 20 she returned to her homeland where she continued to practice painting. In the 70s she received influences from artists such as Tapies, Lucio Muñoz, Millares, Dubuffe, Lucio Fontana, Pollok etc. Her first workshop was the kitchen of her house. Starting at 8 in the afternoon, he would put his children to bed and unfold the easel and a large board as a table, turning it into a studio in which he worked until the wee hours of the morning. The first stages of his production were figurative, portraits, seascapes, still lifes. He taught painting classes in town halls and houses of culture throughout Asturias. Her career has not been linear. She dabbled with painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, murals and ceramics. Figuration and abstraction have been part of her career. Her first exhibition was held at the Centro Asturiano in Oviedo, in 1979, with figurative works. In 1987 he held his first abstract exhibition in the Banco Bilbao exhibition hall in Oviedo, which was followed by more than 50 individual exhibitions throughout Europe and America, Paris, Brussels, Vienna, Mexico City, Mérida Yucatán, Monterrey, Campeche etc. and more than 50 collective awards and special mentions. He traveled and worked in Brussels and Paris. The role of love and life has been a constant in his work. In the last stages of his life he graduated in Art History from the Faculty of Geography and History of the University of Oviedo. Asturias, Spain. He later completed an international PhD on the figure of the painter, engraver and muralist Fernando Castro Pacheco at the same University, for which he carried out research at the UNAM (Autonomous University of Mexico), which allowed him to spend long stays in Mexico, a country in which develops its last stage, enriching its artistic work thanks to contact with the Mayan culture, generating groups of friends that relate it to art worldwide.
