Residence: Román Torre and Ángeles Angulo
The artists develop “THERO”, winner project of Next Things 2016 – Visible, a joint call of Telefónica I+D and LABoral
THERO is presented as a heavy sculpture on noble materials with a device inside that controls the degree of privacy of users on the Internet through the direct manipulation of the sculpture. THERO can encrypt, discriminate and avoid distractions or eventually cut off any digital contact with the outside.
The piece will have three clearly differentiated parts. Firstly, the hardware that encrypts all the data traffic exiting THERO, secondly the frame or casing that hosts this device that will be switched on by physically rotating the object with our hand and finally the application, that will be installed on every device to contribute to THERO's configuration.
According to the author, THERO treats our digital privacy as a precious and holy object. The object is treated in an artistic, precious and even divine, an object of worship like a unique piece or a talisman that has an immaterial value, the holy value of freedom, anonymity and the right to safe communication”.
The residency at LABoral will be completed with three more months of residency at the facilities of Telefónica I+D in Barcelona.
