LABoral organises free guided visits for the public
The Art Centre sets up visits-workshops aimed at school children as part of the ‘Experimental Station’ exhibition

LABoral has set in motion a guided tours programme of its exhibitions aimed at the general public, which is free of charge. Any visitor to the Art Centre can sign up for them when they pick up their ticket, and participate in this activity in which the mediation team provides for visitors the keys towards a better understanding of the works being exhibited.
The visits to all the exhibitions on display at LABoral take place every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 4.30 pm and 5.30 pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays at 1 pm and 6 pm.
Similarly, and in conjunction with the activities aimed at the school public, Gijón’s Centre of Art and Industrial Creation provides visits-workshops based on the Experimental Station exhibition for pupils from infant, primary and secondary schools. The activity includes a 45-minute adapted tour around the exhibition and a workshop of the same duration which is aimed at encouraging the students’ participation and activating their creative ability.
Experimental Station presents the work by a group of artists who see the creative process as a form of experimentation, transforming their studio or workplace into a testing ground which combines art, science, and in many cases, technology.
In the case of infant and primary school pupils, LABoral’s mediation team and the Asturian group La Bisogno have drawn up a programme that takes as its starting point the interactive sound installation Ecografia (no tocar, por favor) [Ultrasound Scan (please do not touch)] by Julio Adán, in which the presence of a spectator sets off the motors and sensors, activating some machines which randomly create images. The workshop consists of a big playing group which reveals the secret life of the unconventional instruments, where all the attendants participate in creating an original musical composition, using bottles, xylophones, trumpets, sand buckets, horns and saucepans as instruments.
For Secondary School students, the activity is based around the Eprom installation by Alberto Tadiello in which the artist mixes consumer electronics with techniques bordering on DIY to spread across a wall a frame made of wires, loudspeakers, music boxes and other interconnected elements used to create sculptural installations. The workshop aims to introduce to the students an initial overview of electronics and robotics since the activity allows them to gain a basic understanding of the field in an experimental and relaxed way.
Transport aid is provided for participation in these visits-workshops which is 60 € for centres in Gijón, Oviedo and Avilés and 100 € for centres from other towns.
