600 school children will participate in Workshops… on film at LABoral
They form part of the third edition of filMO and will be held from Monday 21st to Saturday 26th November in plat0 at the Centre of Art and Industrial Creation

From next Monday 21st November to Saturday 26th, LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, Gijón, will host Workshops… on film, an activity organised in collaboration with Gijón International Film Festival, whose official opening takes place tomorrow, Friday 18th. Some 600 primary and secondary school children from educational centres in Asturias will participate in the workshops which will be held by plat0 at LABoral as part of the activities for filMO. This pocket-sized festival organized by the Art Centre celebrates its third edition, which carries the title: Remake/Remodel.
filMO is a pocket-sized film festival made with mobile devices, such as telephones or low resolution cameras, originally born within the LABmóvil project by LABoral included in the Avanza Plan, which is sponsored by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce of the Spanish government.
The Workshops… on film are coordinated by Espacio de Creación y Didáctica (espaciodecreacion@gmail.com) with the goal of creating a link between young people and the seventh art, building on the educational and formative potential of films included in the Enfants Terribles cycle of the Film Festival and other classics. Its main purpose is to foster the development of creative skills, visual inventiveness and the creation of new images and stories.
This activity, which will be 55 minutes in length for each group and scheduled to extend from 10 am to 6 pm throughout the week, aims to encourage audiovisual creation among the very young based on the use of homemade technology, boosting innovation, creativity and research. The school children go from being mere spectators to experiencing audiovisual action from within, developing the construction of their stories and characters which promotes a better understanding of the creative act.
During the workshop a blog -Talleresdecine.blogspot.com- will be created which will give visibility to the work and opinions of the children and young people, as well as publish the finished works, the reviews, and it will also include the educational material for use in classrooms.

filMO awards
In addition, this 23rd November at 7.45 pm at Gijón’s Centro de Cultura Antiguo Instituto [Former Jovellanos Institute Cultural Centre], the finalist films in the third edition of filMO will be screened and the winners of this year –which is being held under the theme of Re-make/Re-model- will be announced.
Each one of the three sections that make up the festival -filMo amateur film, minute-sequence and invited guests- is awarded with two prizes. Firstly, the jury prize of 500 euros, and secondly, the public award amounting to 300 euros.

In addition, filMO also features the Public Award for the unofficial section by public vote.
During the same session, as part of the International Film Festival in Gijón, the three pieces in the Firmas invitadas [Invited Guests] category of filMO, made by Chus Domínguez, Pablo García Canga and Rubén García López, will also be projected. Also, the work selected from this section as the winner of the jury prize will be announced.
