Starting tomorrow Tuesday 18th October until Thursday 20th October, the choreographers and visual artists Sara Paniagua and Raquel López will lead the Cuerpo/LAverinto workshop, framed within the programmed activities for Danza Gijón 2011 [Dance Gijón], which is taking place in the city throughout this month. The workshop will be held at the Art Centre’s Plataforma Cero in the afternoon, from 5 to 8 pm, and is conceived as a meeting focused on training in perception abilities.

During the nine-hour sessions of the workshop, a map will be outlined and its particular readings with formations, deformations, and the materialization of each look in the exercise and practice of the tools and clues. Time, perspective, zoom control –the frame– sequence, the sequence shot, the shot-reverse shot, making all your body able to see are some of the elements which will be dealt with.

The workshop is in collaboration with Danza Gijón 2011, Pecera Elástica and LABoral’s Plataforma Cero, and includes the participation of  Mónica Valenciano as special guest. The attendance fee is 26 euros.

Raquel López graduated from RESAD (Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts) in Madrid and completed her training with circus studies at Ciudad de los Muchachos in Madrid, with music at the Madrid Royal Conservatory, and with theatre at the Cuarta Pared hall in Madrid. Since 1992 she has been working closely with Mónica Valenciano, who she founded the company El Bailadero with in 1996, performing the Disparates series.

Mónica Valenciano is a dancer and choreographer and is studying classical and contemporary dance and theatre at the Instituto del Teatro in Barcelona and is a graduate from RESAD in Madrid.

Additionally, as part of the Danza Gijón 2011 programme, next Saturday 22 October, Plataforma Cero at LABoral will host the presentation of Canción LAverino [LAverino Song] from 8.30 pm onwards, with free entrance.

Canción LAverinto is a work aiming to use the body as an instrument which resonates a reflective feeling, showing vulnerability instead of disguising it; collaborating with the act of appearance  –taking place at this fleeting border between the public and the private–  and its potential for being inhabited, trespassed, making possible the impregnation of everything that surrounds it in an over-arching cross-section of things, bodies and spaces. It is a creation by Raquel Sánchez, Mónica Valenciano, Sara Paniagua and Estela Lloves, which will be interpreted by the first three.
