LABoral takes part on STARTS Symposium on Science, Technology and Art organized by the EU
The Managing Director of Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial will present also in Santander ENCAC as a case study of the programmes funded by the EU

LABoral will be present in the symposium STARTS on Science, Technology and Art, an activity that is part of the EU programme bearing the same name that is aimed at exploring the catalytic role of arts for the innovation in science, industry and society and how to support it.
The contribution of art practices to innovation and the creation of possible synergies will be the focus of analysis of the debates that will be held at BOZAR, Palace of Fine Arts of Brussels, today Monday, 22 and tomorrow Tuesday, 23. This event will gather representatives of artistic, scientific and cultural institutions as well as firms from all over Europe. Among others, Michel Magnier, Director of Culture and Creativity at the Directorate General of Education and Culture of the European Commission; Paul Dujardin, Director of BOZAR; Gerfried Stocker, Director of Ars Electronica; Roger Malina, Managing Director of Leonardo M.I.T Press; Domenico Vicinanza, from Geant and Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge; Carmen Mac Williams, from Grassroots Arts; Mónica Bello, Director of ARTS@CERN; Joachim Quantz, from ART+COM; and Tim Plyming, of Nesta.
In this context, the Managing Director of LABoral, Lucía García, will present the work carried out by the Art Centre in the field of art, science, technology and society since it opened eight years ago, as well as the hybrid nature of LABoral and its collaborative activity with artists, technologists, society and enterprises.
STARTS will focus on the existing collaboration between science, technology and society in projects funded by the European Commission. Precisely LABoral is the only artistic institution in Spain that has taken part over the last three years in two projects funded by the European Union. These projects are the Digital Art and Science Network and the European Network of Contemporary Audiovisual Creation (ENCAC).
Ars Electronica leads the European Digital Art and Science Network, a group of seven artistic European institutions and two scientific ones (CERN and ESO), including the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial de Gijón. It is aimed at promoting the collaboration of artists and scientists under the premises of interdisciplinarity, European intercultural exchange and the development of new audiences.
Moreover, Lucía García, will present the project of Enterprise Residencies, an initiative carried out by the Art Centre in partnership with the Science and Technology Park of Gijon. It is aimed at exploring the benefits that might result from the collaborative interdisciplinary work among the agents of art and the corporate world, whose activities have been traditionally separated, in order to generate an actual feedback for the benefit of innovation.

ENCAC, IN SANTANDER
LABoral also leads the Contemporary Audiovisual Creation Network (ENCAC), a transnational cooperation project aimed at supporting, disseminating and fostering interaction among citizens, artists and researchers interested in visual arts, sound and audiovisual creation and digital culture. The European Network of Contemporary Audiovisual Creation is the second proposal in which LABoral takes part selected in less than a year to be funded by the EU.
In this initiative the Art Centre is accompanied by L.E.V. Festival as strategic partner, and Ars Electronica, Linz, Austria; hTh - CDN de Montpellier, France; Le Lieue Unique, France; Resonate, Serbia; and DISK, Germany. The activities projected by the European Network of Contemporary Audiovisual Creation will be extended into the programmes of other four collaborators located in countries which are not members of the EU: Mapping Festival, Switzerland; Avatar, Québec, Canada; Elektra, Montreal, Canada; and Mutek, Mexico.
The participation of LABoral in this project funded by the EU will be presented as a case study in the “Briefing on European Programmes. Europe with the citizens and Creative Europe” that will be held Wednesday, June 24 at Palacio de Festivales de Santander. This briefing session is organised by the office of Creative Europe– Ministry of Culture and the Europe for Citizens Point with the Government of Cantabria and Europe Direct.
ENCAC will be developed from next May until September 2017 and will receive 200.000 Euros of community funds (half the cost of the activities planned by the Network) for developing a wide programme of research, production, education and dissemination of the new audiovisual practices.
