20 secondary school students from the Laboral University of Gijon will take part in the sound narrative creation workshop organised by the Centro de Arte

A group of 20 students of the Audiovisual Culture subject in the first year of the Baccalaureate at the Instituto de Educación Secundaria of the Universidad Laboral de Gijón [the Laboral University’s secondary school] will participate in the Geolocated Sound Narrative Creation workshop, organised by the Centre of Art and Industrial Creation in Gijón, which will be held from Monday 26th until Wednesday 28th March.
The workshop will be given by Helena Torres, author of Serendipia [Serendipity], a work produced by LABoral following its selection as part of the Narrativas espaciales [Spatial Narratives] programme. This is promoted by Plataforma 0. Production Centre in collaboration with SAT-Société des Arts Technologiques [Society for Arts and Technology] (Montreal), No Tours (Vigo) and GPSmuseum (Murcia) and is based on locative audio and its narrative possibilities. Horacio González, member of the escoitar.org collective will also be participating.
Serendipia [Serendipity] is a locative audio project which has been developed using the notours application during the artist’s residency at LABoral’s Plataforma 0. The work presents a fragmented narrative, recorded onto audio tracks located at the El Sucu cemetery opened in 1876, which aims to solve a crime committed in Gijón at the end of the nineteenth century. Wandering through this space, formed by present-day tracks of past events, brings us closer to the political, social and historical climate of the beginning of the modern age in order to create a historical point of view of the present. This sound walk will be presented to the public on Saturday 31st, between 12 noon and 2 pm, at El Sucu Cemetery, where the narrative is located.
The workshop which starts on Monday has been programmed to fit in with this project. Throughout the three sessions, the participants will develop a geolocated audio narrative based on the work: Frankenstein, the modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley, using the notours application, which has been developed by the escoitar.org collective.
Objective: collectively creating a sound walk located in the surroundings of IES at Laboral University.
Dates: Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th, from 10 am to 1 pm; Wednesday 28th March, from 9 am to 12 noon.
