Rosina Gómez-Baeza showcases the work done by LABoral in the region and cartography at the Faenza's Festival dell’Contemporary Art
The Director of the Centre of Art and Industrial Creation in Gijón takes part in the meeting in which theorists, museum directors and experts examine the situation of contemporary art
This Thursday 20th May, LABoral’s director, Rosina Gómez-Baeza, will take part in the fourth edition of the ‘Festival dell’ Arte Contemporanea’ [the Contemporary Art festival] which is being held in the Italian town, Faenza. Until Sunday 22nd, critics, people in charge of museums and art centres and experts from all over the world will review the current state of contemporary art. In her speech, Gómez-Baeza will present the work carried out by LABoral in relation to the region and the cartography projects that have been developed during its first four years of existence.
Gómez-Baeza will present LABoral as a case study and as a space which is focused on those artists and creators using the most diverse languages to represent and give form to the human condition, promoting an interdisciplinary vision of artistic creation, with special attention on the convergence of society, art, science, technology and industry.
LABoral has produced 14 exhibitions in which, specifically, a significant number of works related to territory, memory and cartography have been shown: Extensiones-Anclajes [Extensions–Anchors] (Phase I y II), Emergentes, Situation Room, Homo Ludens Ludens, banquete_nodos y redes [banquet_nodes and networks], There is No Road, El pasado en el presente y lo propio en lo ajeno [The Past in the Present and the Foreign in the Self], Cartografías ciudadanas [Citizens’ Cartography], donkijote.org, Mediateca Expandida. Arcadia, Feedforward, El ángel de la Historia [The Angel of History], el proceso como paradigma [Process as Paradigm], Proposal call for grants for Artistic Production 2009 and Mediateca Expandida Habitar [Inhabit]. In addition, the art centre has held numerous workshops, meetings and activities focused on the same subject area, such as Aire, sonido y poder [Air, Sound and Power], the 1st Citizens´Cartography International Meeting, Mapping Modern Cities, The Adventure in Maps and Sound Cartography of Gijón, among others.
