Tomorrow, Tuesday 30 August, starting at 7 pm, Plataforma Cero will host the public presentation of the work: UKI Viral Game, produced by the new media artist Shu Lea Cheang during her one-month residency at LABoral, and software developer Massimo Avvisati.

Enter the BioNet [UKI Game Level 2] is a collective game taking us to the near future in which the Corporation GENOM has taken control of mankind by infecting its red blood cells. Using wireless bio-sensors that measure the participant’s level of excitement, the game consists in defeating the Corporation and taking back the bodies, eliminating the infection.

The participants will have the opportunity to play the demo version of this viral game, which is based on the video game REZ (Japan, 2001 for Dreamcast and PlayStation2). It is developed in four levels: Level 1, infect the public; Level 2, virus mobilisation; Level 3, enter in Bionet; Level 4, collective orgasm –game end without end. The project UKI was produced for the first time at Hangar (Barcelona), in 2009, but it was more widely developed as a viral game at La Casa Encendida (Madrid) and Medialab Prado (Madrid).

Specialized in video and internet editing, Shu Lea Cheang (Taiwan, 1954) is an artist engaged in new media and expert in installation, net art and performance. She was the first net artist commissioned by Guggenheim Museum in New York for the artistic project: Brandon (1998-1999), a work developed over one year involving the creation of a web narrative. Among her works are Locker Baby, which includes Baby Play (2001, exhibited at NTT [ICC] Tokyo); Baby Love (2005, displayed at Palais de Tokyo and which travelled around the United States, Australia, Thailand and Norway); and Baby Work (2012), which uses a baby clone to negotiate human ME (Memory/Emotion) data. Her film I.K.U. was screened at commercial cinemas and also well received by museums, including Reina Sofía (Madrid), where it was programmed in 2001. Cheang is a visionary who drafts science-fiction narratives for her art works. Her interface design focuses on social, public and corporate interaction going beyond computer keyboards. In addition, she is well-known in gender, technology and post-porn studies.
