The sound artist Edu Comelles, with his project Paisajes Imposibles, has been selected in the call for an art residency launched by LABoral and Lo Pati – Centre d’Art de les Terres de l’Ebre for a shared art residency, aimed at projects of experimental music and sound art related with the sound landscape of Asturias and the Ebro River Delta.

Paisajes Imposibles emphasises the critical need to explore the creative potential of sound landscapes, not as a study and analysis element of realities, but rather as an elastic matter with which to transformo r create new realities. Edu Comelles will use the sound landscape of two territories separated from each other, Asturias and the Ebro River Delta, to create a third sound landscape, “a construction created from bits and pieces of reality”, as he says. In order to do so, and during a one-week art residency at LABoral and another one ain Amposta, where Lo Pati is based Lo Pati, Centre d’Art de les Terres de l’Ebre, at the end of June, will be taking field recordings and he will use previously recorded sounds for cartographies that exist in each of these regions, coming from the nature, the country side, cities, meteorology, time, etc.

After selecting and organizing this material, according to its formal or semantic features, he will develop a specific software to generate a new sound landscape. This software, created in the platform Max MSP, will be used to sound this new landscape created from these two specific sound realities. Thus, an unreal composition is created that will be a third line of meaning and will add identity to an undefined place, a middle-point between Asturias and the Ebro River Delta. Paisajes Imposibles will be an immersive sound installation where the listener will get into the listening of this altered and blurred sound landscapes.
