13,888 people participated in the activities at LABoral Centro de Arte during the past week
The Centro de Arte recorded an increase in visitors by 98.91% in July, coinciding with its Open Door days which will continue until 1 September

A total of 13,888 people visited LABoral and participated in its activities during the week of 22 to 28 July. The “star” event was the Design Market which for its summer edition took place in the outdoor surroundings of the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28.
Almost 7,000 people came to the summer design market where, in addition to the traditional stalls of around 50 Asturian designers, the attending public had the opportunity to directly observe the operation of the 3D printer in fabLAB Asturias, the Digital Fabrication Laboratory at the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, and purchase key-rings and bracelets made “in situ”.
In addition, it was possible to see at first hand the working of Flone. The Flying Phone, the awarded project in the call for proposals Next Things - Next Spaces 2013 by LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial and Telefónica I+D [R+D]. For two months, two of its authors, Lot Amorós and Cristina Navarro, have undertaken an artist residency at LABoral to work on the prototype of this interface that enables smartphones to fly. The work will be continued in the residency that both will complete at the Telefónica I+D centre in Barcelona, together with Alex Oliver, the third developer of Flone.
As well as being able to watch flights by the drone, a research project which has been underway though this year in Plataforma 0. Production Centre at LABoral, visitors also had the opportunity to enjoy live music, food and drink, a photography contest, and join in a picnic and cyclist rally.
From 1 July to 1 September, LABoral is holding Open Door days with the goal of bringing the public closer to its programme. In this way, people who come to the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial will also have the opportunity of visiting for free the exhibitions currently being shown in its halls. These include Realidad elástica [Elastic Reality] with ten works which offer a perspective on how contemporary artists are re-examining notions as traditional as landscape, narrative and representation Universo vídeo_Experimental Practices II. Cartograhies to anticipate a movement, a selection from the collections of the video-graphic catalogue of Le Fresnoy; and The Moon Museum by Karlos Gil, the winning project of the DKV Seguros – Álvarez Margaride Prodcution Grant, jointly called by Laboral and the insurance body. These exhibitions will be joined by Traslaciones [Translations], an artistic exchange in the context of the Atlantic Arc, on Wednesday 31
The art centre will also hold until 9 August its traditional summer camps intended for young children, which are focused on robotics on this occasion.
Between 1 and 28 July this year, LABoral has recorded an influx of 15,555 visitors, compared to 7,820 reported in the same period for 2012. This figure represents an increase of 98.91%.
