Until this September 10, LABoral will continue holding its Open Door Days including free admission with a visit to the exhibitions and programmed activities over this summer. The Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón is celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2012 and since 1 July it has invited its audiences along to join in the celebration as a token of gratitude for their support over the last five years.

Visitors will have the opportunity to visit the large immersive installation by the Japanese artist and musician Ryoji Ikeda. datamatics. data.tecture [5 SXGA+ version], among others. The piece can be seen at the Galería de Proyectos [Projects Gallery] until this 17 September and offers the visitor a totally immersive and sensorial experience. The artwork has been defined by El Cultural, the supplement of the daily newspaper El Mundo, as “a unique experience for the senses”. Together with the eCLIPSe exhibition, [retro]perspectiva en 50 fases del vídeo musical [[retro]perspective of the music video in 50 steps], which traces a path through the creative world of the music video with a selection of 50 pieces that throughout history are considered to be crucial for an understanding of this discipline, means that “a visit to LABoral is a must”, according to this publication.

A few days before on Monday 10 September, n-Polytope -a contemporary re-imagining of the Greek composer and architect Iannis Xenakis’ radical architectural environments created by the North American artist Chris Salter during his three-week residency at LABoral- draws to a close. The work will travel to other international spaces after being produced and presented in a world première this last 20 July in Gijón.

Additionally, the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, Gijón, is showing the work Generadores de sombras [Shadow generators] by Cristina Busto, winner of the recent edition of the LABjoven_Experimenta Award. In this exhibition, the Asturian artist created a film set within the exhibition hall with the purpose of making a live video show in a long take. Later, after a screening of the visuals, the set remains on exhibit within the space. Also to be seen are the eight projects selected in Otoño del reciclaje [Recycling Autumn], a proposal call for artistic interventions in Gijón’s public spaces using recycled materials which was launched by the Empresa Municipal de Servicios de Medio Ambiente Urbano de Gijón (EMULSA) and which can be seen in Gijón from October onwards.
