This Thursday, May 5th, at LABoral, the artistic team PSJM, formed by Cynthia Viera (Las Palmas, 1973) and Pablo San José (Mieres, 1969), will present their book La isla de Hidrógeno [The Hydrogen Island] -a futuristic science fiction novel- as part of the project with the same title which has been produced in different media types. Up to now, the work consists of a sculpture produced with a 3D printer, a three-dimensional video with original music (Marco Brosolo) and the actual novel written by PSJM. The event will take place at 7 pm in the Chill-out space at LABoral, with free entrance.

With La isla de Hidrógeno, this artistic duo, based in Berlin, return to draw together apparently disparate cultural spheres, combining utopic literature of a philosophical, sociological and political nature with the narrative of entertainment in which suspense, violence, love, action and personal relations induce the reader to continuously reflect on today’s society.

The novel follows a tradition started by William Morris and his News from Nowhere in which the art-theorist is committed to an ideal vision of society through the narrative. Moreover, this new launch by Empatía Ediciones, who have published a limited edition of 500 copies, includes aspects from Swedish crime fiction which, in the eyes of PSJM, entail authentic Scandinavian dystopias in which entertainment literature sits quite comfortably with social critique. In Asturias, copies can be obtained during the presentation of the project and in the bookshops Paradiso in Gijón and Ojanguren in Oviedo, as well as at LABshop.

In 2008 PSJM exhibited at LABoral its work Marx®, a critique on the capitalist system, by means of converting the Sala Plataforma 1 exhibitory space into a boutique in which jeans, T-shirts, dresses and shoes were sold. The installation was accompanied by a real publicity campaign with commercials, a marquee, press, a catalogue and original music.
