LABoral offers workshops focused on experimental television and digital design and fabrication in its educational area for the academic year 2012-2012
Attendance is free upon registration
Guided visits to the exhibitions and workshops for students which are focused on learning the techniques involved in experimental television and digital design and fabrication are the central themes of the School Programme offered by LABoral for the academic year 2012-2013. All of the activities are free upon registration.
The Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón makes itself available as a classroom where participants gain knowledge on the latest trends in art and contemporary technological culture and industrial creation. In all of the activities in its training programme, LABoral takes as its starting point the exploration of new teaching methods and ground-breaking formats, placing itself in a pioneering role in this area. This is intended to cover the current shortfall in the use of new technological media in schools, universities and vocational education while encouraging public and amateur participation and, also, to make the art centre an effective teaching resource that supports educational practices in classrooms and contributes towards the all-round education of students.
Along these lines, the two-hour long visits and workshops, which are intended for students in pre-school, primary, secondary and baccalaureate education, have been designed to foster the understanding and interaction of the public with the main themes of LABoral’s programme. The workshops for the first trimestre of the 2012-13 course will concentrate on audiovisual culture, the second term will be dedicated to sound art, and the third will revolve around the world of digital design and fabrication. These workshops may be supplemented by a guided visit to the exhibitions at the art centre. In this case registration must be made by telephone: 985 331 907 or by email: visitas@laboralcentrodearte.org
Secondary and baccalaureate students will have the opportunity to take part in the TV-LAB programme: Experimental Television Laboratory, whose main objective is to understand the multiple realities shown in the communication media, while, at the same time, creatively and freely expressing ideas.
TV-LAB has a communication platform and a mobile experimental television set. The project includes theory and practical workshops based on subjects such as media literacy, introduction to the digital era, media literature, analysis of televised media, as well as the understanding of and research on audiovisual language. The workshops last two hours and can be registered for by calling telephone: 985 133 924 or by email: educacion@laboralcentrodearte.org
Another option is to gain access to digital design and fabrication by participating in the workshops offered by fabLAB Asturias. A “fablab” is a digital fabrication laboratory, equipped with machinery normally out of the financial reach of the private user, which facilitates instantaneous prototype production, design sharing and collaborative work for schools and the local creative community. The activity proposed by LABoral will last one hour and consists in presenting the concept of Fab Lab and its resources, followed by a practical part. Registration can be made by telephone at 985 133 924, or by email at educacion@laboralcentrodearte.org
