LABoral takes part with Politécnico di Milano in a project to foster new opportunities in the cultural and creative industries

Andrea Fusaro and Alberto Barone will work in their project 'Soundlike' during the residency

LABoral takes part in CupCake, a programme of the Politecnico di Milano, one of the most prestigious engineering, architecture and industrial design in Europe, that is aimed at fostering employment and new opportunities in the cultural and creative industries. In addition to the Design Department of this university, this initiative is also joined by the Fondazione Politecnico di Milano and PoliHub, the startup incubator of this institution. Through an international professional exchange programme with reference partners in Europe, like LABoral, CupCake is supporting the development of initiatives that provide innovation, new approaches and business opportunities in industries where the creative element generates competitive edge.

The first result of this collaboration is the residency that will be developed at the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial de Gijón until May 15 by the Italian creators Andrea Fusaro and Alberto Barone to implement Soundlike, an application that allows to record and share experiences of geolocated sound.

They will present the project to the public this Wednesday, at 7 p.m. at Toma 3 (Marqués de Casa Valdés, 27 bajo, Gijón) in a presentation where the audience will be invited to create a electro-acoustic piece based on sounds created on site for its further edition.

Soundlike was created in September 2014, based on an idea of the sound designer Andrea Fusaro, who was looking for a platform to share his recordings, discover new sound landscapes and interact with other professionals. The team was completed with the graphic designer  Alberto Barone, who took care of the interaction between the web project and the user experience; Salvatore D'agostino, web developer; and Riccardo Marchi, management engineer who was in charge of the market studies and the financial feasibility of the project. The team worked during three months at Milan’s PoliHub, where they developed the web site for the launch of Soundlike, carried out market studies and the business plan of the company. With this project they received the prize S2P- Switch2Product of the PoliHub.

The system allows recording high quality sounds with a smartphone as well as loading them to an Internet platform where they are directly linked and shared through several social networks to interact with other users. According to its creators, Soundlike is a sound landscape 2.0, a sound with which users can communicate and share experiences.

During their residency at LABoral and in collaboration with the team of the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial Andrea Fusaro and Alberto Barone will work on the development of their proposal in aspects like the software of the social web site, improving the quality of recordings made with smartphones and the creation of a soundtrack for the project. The goal is to establish a link with the artistic and professional fabric of the sound field of Asturias and look for investors interested in Soundlike.
