LABoral shows the projects selected in the ‘Otoño del reciclaje’ Call for Artists from June 26
The proposals can be seen at the Centro de Arte until 17 September and will be exhibited afterwards at various public locations around the centre of Gijón

From next Thursday 26 July, LABoral will show the eight projects selected for Otoño del reciclaje [Autumnal Recycling], a proposal call for artistic interventions in Gijón’s public spaces using recycled materials, launched by EMULSA - Gijón’s Municipal Company for Urban Environmental Services.
Otoño del reciclaje is supported by the Fundación Municipal de Cultura, Educación and Universidad Popular del Ayuntamiento de Gijón [Municipal Foundation of Culture, Education and Popular University of Gijón City Council] and LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial [LABoral Centre of Art and Industrial Creation]. The artworks which were selected by a jury of experts can be seen now in the lobby at LABoral and will later take shape in different places in the city: Turno B by Bernardo Busto; Mesa con botellas de cobre by María de los Reyes Calleja; VV. Verde Vertical by Cristina Ferrández; Centri-fugados by Marianna Nieddu y Begmont, Donde ayer a las 5 by the Luciérnagas en el jardín collective, Ahogada by Nerea Santiesteban, Un respiro a Pechamama by SAK and Acción flotante by the Volumínica collective. Along with these the remaining submitted projects will also be shown: Contenedores de arte by Daniel Acevedo del Busto and Javier Ávila, La ola by Nano Méndez and Gijón de luces by Estefanía Rivera García.
As of October these works will occupy different public places in the city. Their location will be approved by the artist and the municipal technical commission responsible for issues related to safety and mobility.
Otoño del Reciclaje is one of the actions included in the Campaign for Public Environmental Awareness and aims to draw citizens’ awareness to the artistic potential of the many elements sent to the rubbish bin and also show the waste re-use process, turning it into authentic works of art, real or virtual, which make the city’s main shopping streets and centres more attractive.
The artists receive €300 from EMULSA as fees and €1,000 for the production of the works, as well as the waste from the Recycling Points: all kinds of pallets, aluminium cans, packaging waste, cardboard, wood, tyres, etc..
