LABoral will show the winning projects of the artistic intervention competition 'Otoño de reciclaje' in mid-July
The proposal call by EMULSA aims for the production of works in Gijón’s public areas which are made from recycled materials

From mid-July LABoral will be holding an exhibition of the projects selected in the Otoño de Reciclaje [Autumnal Recycling] competition. This is a call for the production of artistic interventions in Gijón’s public spaces using recycled materials carried out by EMULSA - Empresa Municipal de Servicios de Medioambiente Urbano de Gijón [Gijón’s Municipal Company for Urban Environmental Services].
The competition is aimed at artists who are resident in Asturias and interested in creating interventions in city public areas using materials intended for recycling and from Recycling Points. The participants have until June 15th to present their proposals which, if selected, will be exhibited during the autumn in any of the public spaces agreed with the City Council. After the final decision by the jury, the chosen artists will have two months to produce the works, which EMULSA has allocated 300 euros in respect of fees and 1,000 euros for production, as well as provide the waste recyclable material from the recycling points: all kinds of pallets, aluminium cans, packaging waste, cardboard, wood, tyres, etc...
Otoño del Reciclaje is one of the actions included in the Public Environmental Awareness Campaign by EMULSA and aims to draw citizens’ attention to the potential of many elements sent to the rubbish bin, as well as display the waste re-use process, converting it into authentic art works, real or virtual, that contribute to making the city’s main shopping streets and centres more attractive. The call is supported by the Fundación Municipal de Cultura, Educación y Universidad Popular del Ayuntamiento in Gijón [Municipal Foundation of Culture, Education and Popular University of Gijón City Council] and by LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial [LABoral Centre of Art and Industrial Creation].
