Alicia Aza, Fernando Fernández, Narcís Pujol and Jaime Sordo will speak about collecting at LABoral
The Chill-out space at the Art Centre hosts a day on collectors and collections as the key drivers of art this Saturday 10th
Alicia Aza, Fernando Fernández, Narcís Pujol and Jaime Sordo will speak about collecting at LABoral this Saturday 10th December as part of Bcollector, First Roundtable on Collecting. This activity forms part of the programme for ALNORTE Contemporary Art Week which is aimed at stimulating artistic collecting as a means to export and enrich the visual arts. It has been organised by Nuria Fernández, director of the Espacio Líquido Gallery in Gijón, Natalia García, director of the specialised consultancy NG Arte, and the collector Jaime Sordo.
From 11 am until 2 pm, in Chill-out at the Art Centre, the four art collectors will talk about their experiences on what a collection is and how to create one, sharing their observations from very different perspectives.
The event, chaired by Elena Vozmediano, art critic for El Cultural, the cultural supplement of El Mundo newspaper, and President of the Institute of Contemporary Art (IAC), shows LABoral’s commitment to spreading and contributing to a better understanding of present-day art and culture, one of the underlying objectives of the activity.
Coinciding with this event, LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial will make available a documentation area in Chill-out where those attending will be able to directly access the Asturian Artists Archive, an extensive database for consulting professional and biographical information, containing images and descriptive texts of artists born or resident in Asturias whose work has been developed since 1950. The Asturian Artists Archive aims to serve as a driving force behind creation and contemporary culture in Asturias. In addition, a wide range of information, bibliographies and catalogues on matters related to collecting will be included.
The personal accounts by Alicia Aza, Fernando Fernández, Narcís Pujol and Jaime Sordo will give the people attending –actual collectors, potential collectors, the interested public and professional audiences- a first-hand insight into four experiences of collecting which were developed along very different criteria from the outset, exploring the purpose of their collections, how the collectors have promoted them, and what they have gained out of this.
BCOLLECTOR: The First Roundtable on Collecting also seeks to highlight the generosity of the collectors who, far from looking for financial gain from each work they own, actually strive to see they are enjoyed by as many people as possible.
