LABoral holds another edition of its design market with a new format resembling an open-air festival
The event takes place in the outdoor surroundings of the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in the evening on Friday 27th and throughout the days of Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th July

This coming weekend LABoral will hold a new edition of its market with 52 designers taking part. The design market will be open at the arches outside the art centre from 5 pm to 10 pm on Friday 27; and from 12 noon until 10 pm on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 July. On this occasion the market will present a format which closely matches a “romería/fiesta de “prau”, or open-air festival. In this way, the attending public can enjoy, alongside the traditional design objects, live music, food and drink, entertainment for younger children, as well as join in a picnic or cyclist rally. Entrance is free and the public will also be able to visit the exhibitions currently being shown at LABoral.
Since December 2008 the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial has been celebrating this event which is very popular among Asturians. The design market is conceived as an open space for creativity which showcases the work carried out by Asturian designers. Like in every edition, visitors will have the opportunity to see and buy clothes, accessories and items for home décor. LABoral also puts on sale publications, exhibition catalogues, specialised magazines and art objects at a reduced price. During Saturday’s session, the public will be able to enjoy Microfest from 5.30 pm to 10 pm, which offers live performances by Spicy Mustard, Indienella and Los Herr manos.
From Friday until Sunday, people visiting the Centro de Arte will also have free access to the exhibitions on show at LABoral. These are datamatics. data.tecture [5 SXGA+ version], a project specifically adapted for the monumental character of the Projects Room with which the Japanese artist and musician Ryoji Ikeda offers the visitor a totally immersive and sensorial experience; eCLIPSe, an exhibition tracing the history of the video as a form of artistic expression; Generadores de sombras [Shadow Generators], a work by Cristina Busto and winning project of the fifth edition of the LABjoven_Experimenta award; and the newly opened audiovisual installation n-Polytope with which North American artist Chris Salter reinterprets and adapts, using today’s existing technology, the spectacular architectural environments imagined by the Greek architect and composer Iannis Xenakis in the 1970s and 80s of the last century. In addition, visitors will be able to learn about the Narrativas espaciales [Spatial Narratives] project, which draws together the results from a workshop held in November in which writers, digital developers and sound artists met up at LABoral to work on locative and audio projects. The offering closes with Usos y formas [Uses and Forms], a work developed by Noé Baranda and Juan José Pulgar straddling visual culture and anthropology.
