The summer Design Market at LABoral will give the opportunity to try out the 3D printer in fabLAB at the Centro de Arte
It will take place in the outdoor surroundings of the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28, with the participation of over fifty Asturian designers

LABoral will hold this coming weekend a new edition of its design market with the participation of over 50 designers. In this edition, the designers’ stalls will be spread out along the arcades in the outdoor surroundings of the art centre from 12 noon until 10 pm on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28.
For the first time, the attending public will have the opportunity to see at first hand the operation of the 3D printer in fabLAB Asturias, the Digital Fabrication Laboratory of the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón, which works as a space for production, research and development.
It will have its own space at the design market where visitors will be able to buy at a reduced price key-rings and bracelets designed and manufactured in fabLAB that can be personalised. Also, they will have the chance to take part in a prize draw to win the experience of a “flight in first person” of one of the drones built in the research project TheDrone, which has been underway throughout this year in Plataforma 0. Production Centre at LABoral. Based on the use of electronics and open code software, this project includes the design and fabrication of unmanned aerial vechicles called UAVs.
On this occasion the Design Market will be presented in a format that resembles a “romería” or an open air festival. In this way, those attending will be able to enjoy live music, food and drink, a photography contest, as well as join in a picnic and cyclist rally.
As part of Saturday’s events, from 5 pm to 10 pm the Microfest will include performances by The Starkwells, Los Bonsais and Huias, while on Sunday, aperitif time will be livened up with music by Pumaroon5, from 1 to 2 in the afternoon.
In addition, a knitting point will be set up, where visitors will be able to experiment with the basic techniques on how to knit. Entrance will be free of charge and the public can take the opportunity to visit the exhibitions currently on show at LABoral.
A space open to creativity
Started in December 2008 as a new space open to creativity which is intended for showcasing the work carried out by designers who live and work in Asturias, in each edition of the Design Market, coordinated by Marco Recuero, visitors have the opportunity to see and purchase graphic works, t-shirts, clothing items, badges, photographs, postcards, bags, belts, home decor items, jewellery and shoes, among other things. All of the products are original and unique creations, artisanally produced by young designers working in Asturias.
Visitors may become a “LABoral friend” or give the card as a gift in the three available categories (the Friend Card with an annual fee of €10; Corporate Friend with €100 yearly fee; and Family Friend with a yearly fee of €35) and they will receive a surprise present produced by fabLAB. On both Saturday and Sunday, everyone visiting the Centro de Arte will have free admission to the exhibitions on show at LABoral.
Since last Spring, all of the products presented at the market have included a quality seal, with the label Handmade with Love, which certifies original design, self-production and objects made with lots of love. The hallmark guarantees that the objects on display meet minimum quality standards. The seal certifies that they are self-produced, designed by the attendants of this now classic event at the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón and that something different is on offer. All of this comes under the premises of sustainable design, limited edition, quality and local manufacturing.
