LABoral holds a new edition of its design market this weekend and launches a design seal
Admission to the Centro de Arte will be free on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14
The image of the Market includes the quality seal “Hand Made with Love”.
LABoral will take the opportunity of the coming edition of its Design Market, taking place on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 April, to launch a quality seal. Coined with the name “Hand Made with Love”, all of the objects presented by some 50 designers taking part will be printed with this hallmark which guarantees that the objects on offer meet minimum quality standards. The seal certifies that they that they are self-produced, designed by the attendants of this now classic event at the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón, and that they offer something different. All of this comes under the premises of sustainable design, limited edition, quality and local manufacturing. Also, when designers who make use of this “quality mark” attend similar events in other places in Asturias or Spain, they will bear the distinctive seal of the LABoral Design Market.
Started in December 2008 as a new space open to creativity, the market is intended for showcasing the work carried out by designers who live and work in Asturias. In each edition of the Design Market, coordinated by Marco Recuero, visitors have the opportunity to see and purchase graphic works, t-shirts, clothing items, badges, photographs, postcards, bags, belts, home decor items, jewellery and shoes, among other things. All of the products are original and unique creations, artisanally produced by young designers working in the Principality of Asturias.
Also at this market LABoral will offer for sale a line of products designed and made in fabLAB Asturias, the art centre’s digital fabrication laboratory which operates as a space for production, research and development. The public will be able to buy puzzles, bracelets and other decorative objects. Publications and objects usually sold at the art centre’s shop will also be available. Along with merchandising items, design objects made exclusively for LABoral, as well as catalogues on the exhibitions produced at the centre will all be on offer.
Visitors may become a “LABoral Friend” or give the card as a gift in the three available categories (the Friend Card with an annual fee of €10; Corporate Friend with a €100 yearly fee; and Family Friend with a yearly fee of €35) and receive a surprise present produced by fabLAB. On both Saturday and Sunday, everyone visiting the Centro de Arte will have free admission to the exhibitions on show at LABoral.
KNITTING WORKSHOP
Coinciding with the design market, the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón will hold a sewing workshop for beginners given by Alicia Carballo. Starting from scratch with no prior knowledge or need to have previous experience with knitting needles, participants will learn how to start a knitwork–put the stitches on the needles- the two basic stitches- the knit stitch and the purl stitch- changing the knitting–widening and narrowing- and binding off. The aim is to become familiar with the technique and experiment with basic projects (scarves, blankets, hats…)

1º workshop: Saturday 13, 4 pm - 6.30 pm
2º workshop: Sunday 14, 12 noon - 2.30 pm
3º workshop: Sunday 14, 4 pm - 6.30 pm
Registration fee: €30. The fee includes the material for the student to take home with them, general learning factsheets and 2 project sheets to complete at home.
