María Castellanos and Alberto Valverde are working, during their production residency at LABoral, in the creation of Environment Dress, a smart dress that will collect data from the environment to measure the environmental aggressiveness around us and how it affect our mood and behaviour. The result will be a dress made in open source with free hardware and software that anyone will be able to make by downloading the materials needed from the projects web site (http://environmentdress.org/) that has also information on the research process.
Environment Dress is the winner project of Next Things 2015 – Conducta, Cuarto Desafío Global de Arte y Tecnología, a joint call by Telefónica I+D and LABoral.
These two artists want to share their research with the public and will do so in the action Protección solar en código abierto that will be held on Wednesday, July 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at La Escalerona, in Muro de San Lorenzo.
The project is aimed at making UV radiation visible by means of a smart dress or wearable that measures the level of UV radiation people are exposed to. Several graphic notifications will indicate those wearing the dress the danger of a prolonged exposure to the sun, also in relation with the physical activity they are performing (swimming in the sea, sun bathing, taking a walk, etc.) Depending on the activity, the dress will indicate what measures are to be taken in order to be protected from the sun: Putting on a shirt, sun cream or even standing in the shadow.
María Castellanos and Alberto Valverde will invite the public at La Escalerona to try smart hats and glasses on and to see, through them, how the UV radiation affects them.
