Students from l.E.S Doctor Fleming in Oviedo take part in the Laboratorio de la paLABra this Friday

LABoral's Chill-out is the place where the meetings take place

Students in the fourth year of compulsory secondary education at the state secondary school Doctor Fleming in Oviedo will participate this Friday in the Laboratorio de la palabra [the Word Laboratory]: an initiative by LABoral aiming to promote literary creativity. Through the works at the Laboratory, meetings with creators and prizes, the Laboratorio de la paLABra aims to show that poetic language is a form of industrial creation cutting across other artistic disciplines which can be found in the most unlikely settings and at the reach of everyone in a recreational and entertaining way.

Conceptualised by publishing company El Gaviero Ediciones and produced by LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial in Gijón, it is a space for research, experimentation and creation dedicated to the poetic word. This educational project is run for young people wishing to stimulate their poetic creativity or the power in their word with literary intention. In the words of El Gaviero, “Words invented by the students boil away in the LABoral test-tubes; these words can be a definitive solution”.

The work in the laboratory will be completed with the participants attending “lecture classes” by poetic scientists - experts in alternative poetic production processes. These specialists, as well as showing their theories and explaining their creative process, will be able to evaluate the student’s work and act as motivation for subsequent productions by the students. The project will have as its main participants: Maite Dono (interpretation) on 23rd May; Estíbaliz Espinosa (metaliterature and technology); Carmen Camacho (mixing) on 30th May; and Sandra Santana (poetry performance).

On 14th May, running alongside the work developed in the Laboratory, the presentation of the two winning haikus of the First Poetry Contest: Haikús Eléctricos [Electric Haikus] by Camilo de Ory and Nacho Montoto and those of the five finalists will take place. At this event, the audiovisual interpretation of the haikus, directed by the production company Señor Paraguas, will be shown. Also coming soon, the announcement of the Second Series B Poetry Contest, in collaboration with Semana Negra [Black Week] in Gijón.
