LABoral and Hangar organise a workshop on telepresence where experiments with remote communication will be conducted

LABoral and Hangar, the visual art production centre located in the Poblenou district of Barcelona, have organised a workshop on telepresence which will take place simultaneously in Gijón and in the Catalan capital. Led by artists, creators and tool software developers interested in telepresence from different creative fields (dance, VJing, digital arts, performance art etc.), the workshop is supported by the Ministry of Culture and seeks to generate a space for experimenting with new technologies in this domain which involves remote presence and gives people the feeling of physically being in another place based on a scene created by a computer.
Throughout the week, from December 9th to 15th, in sessions starting at 10 am until 6 pm, the participants will work on opening up different spaces from which to take part remotely by experimenting with tools that make interactive communication possible through information exchange, changes in the sensorial and environmental conditions, remote control systems and the creation of virtual spaces based on Augmented Reality.
In order to approach this experimentation from different angles, collectives, artists and theoreticians, including INTACT Project, Minipimer.tv, Marcel·lí Antúnez and Jorge Luis Marzo, have been invited to participate. Each of them will be responsible for coordinating the first part of each session in a unit during which they will propose working with a set of tools and conceptual lines to the participants. In parallel with this, Jorge Luis Marzo will give conceptual and theoretical support in all the sessions. The second part of each session will be directed towards work in groups for the implementation of a remote action on the last day of the workshop, Thursday 15th, and in connection with the LABoral working group formed by Materia Viva, Manhauser, Madame Cell, Casicasiotone, Paula Pin and Fernando Vallesa, among others. On the same day, between 7 pm and 9 pm, presentations will be made to the public in an open session.

Minipimer.tv is an experimental video laboratory via Internet in real time using free software to carry out research on the creative possibilities offered by digital media. Aimed at fostering reflection and critical thinking in contexts linked to culture, education, communication, art and technology, it opens spaces for artistic and technological experimentation with free tools and generates settings for creation, collaboration and DIY (Do It Yourself) learning. www.minipimer.tv
Marcel·lí Antúnez is one of the most important artists on the electronic art and stage experimentation scene. He has produced installations and art performances at museums, galleries, theatres and unconventional spaces in more than 40 countries. These include the Musée Europienne de la Photographie de la Ville de Paris, the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, the DAF in Tokyo, the MACBA in Barcelona and the ZDB in Lisbon. His work includes mechatronic performances, sometimes with robots, interactive installations, and collaborations with groups of which la Fura dels Baus - which he founded and led in the 80s- is worth highlighting. www.marceliantunez.com
Jorge Luis Marzo is an exhibition curator, writer and lecturer at Escuela Elisava [Barcelona School of Design and Engineering] and at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.
