LABoral takes part in Ars Electronica Festival 2014 that will take place from September 4 to September 8 in Linz, Austria
The Managing Director of LABoral will take part in the symposium on art and new technologies, presenting the art centre of Gijon as a venue that contributes to generating innovation and added value for Asturias. LABoral will also be presenting Spectrum, the radio station used by the Sound LAB to show its production and research work.
LABoral will take part in Ars Electronica, the most important festival in the field of digital and multimedia culture in the world. This year it will take place between the 4 and 8 of September in Linz, Austria under the slogan C… what it takes to change.
The Managing Director of the Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial de Gijón, Lucía García, will take part next Friday, September 5, at the Akademisches Gymnasium, as presenter in a panel on art and new technologies included in the programme of the symposium Innovators of the future. In this forum that will discuss how art and its convergence with the diverse areas of knowledge are increasingly important as a catalyst for groundbreaking changes in research and development around the world, she will present the activity of LABoral in the areas of exhibition, production, research and dissemination and its contribution as a centre that works for social innovation.
In addition to Lucía García, this panel will be joined by Robert Madelin, Director-General responsible for the Digital Agenda for Europe at the European Commision; Francesca Bria, from Nesta Innovation Lab; Luis Miguel Girão, founder of Artshare, interdisciplinary artist, researcher in the field of the use of technology as an artistic tool and member of Planetary Collegium; Hiroshi Ishii, Associate Director of LAB MIT; and Golan Levin, American new media artist, composer and member of MIT Media Laboratory.
Spectrum. Is anybody there?
The Sound LAB of LABoral that, among other activities, carries out research on the wave spectrum and the creative possibilities of radio spaces with broadcasts and collaborations with several artists and researchers will also be present at Ars Electronica. In Linz it will present a programme including sound works by international artists under the title Is anybody there?
Spectrum at Ars Electronica 2014 will act as a device for production and dissemination, while proposing a performative dimension of listening. In other words, the programme will be developed as a sort of practice of locative art that fosters the development of a community around the act of listening.
The contents curated by the Responsible of the Sound LAB, Daniel Romero, have been arranged as independent radio pieces, resulting from the diverse activities developed by the Sound LAB during 2014. Some of them result from the close collaboration of LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial with the LEV Festival, that co-curates the participation of some of the artists.

BIOGRAPHIES
Nicolas Bernier creates sound performances, installations, musique concrète, live electronic music, post-rock, acoustic improvisation and video art, at the same time he works with dance, drama, moving images and interdisciplinary contexts. His works have been of interest for Prix Ars Electronica (Austria), SONAR (Spain), Mutek (Canada), DotMov Festival (Japan) and Transmediale (Germany) and have been published on lovely labels like Crónica (Portugal), Farmacia901 (Italy), leerraum (Switzerland) and LINE (USA)
EVOL is a computer music cell started in 1996 by Catalan musician and composer Roc Jiménez de Cisneros. His work has been released by internationally renowned record labels like Mego, Fals.ch, Lucky Kitchen, Entr’acte, Antifrost, Scarcelight or Diskono among others.
Fasenuova. Roberto Lobo and Ernesto Avelino form an original combination of free-noise in Spanish and Spanglish, although they always say that it is pure and simple rock’n’roll. This marks the singularity of Asturian industrial band best known outside our region.
Rodrigo García (Buenos Aires, 1964) Rodrigo García is a theater director, playwright and set designer. Founder of the theater company La Carnicería Teatro, he resides in Spain since 1986, where he has developed most of his theater career. He has collaborated with, among other institutions and festivals, National Drama Centre (Spain), the Festival d’Avignon or the Venice Biennale. In 2009 he was awarded the Premio Europa Nueva Realidad Teatral. Currently he is the director of the National Drama Centre of Montpellier-Languedoc-Rousillon.
Komatssu. Active since 2007, Komatssu is the most personal project of Hector Sandoval (50% of the renowned duet Exium). A project based on the natural hybridation between the most melodic IDM and the spectral avant-techno, about sound as a catalyser of emotions and about a varied sound palette that has fostered the development of a highly personal sound imaginary.
PYLAR PYLAR is made up by several hierophants, shamans and druids, among which, rumor has it, there are some members of the mighty Orthodox and the woundrous Blooming Látigo. Their shows combine songs, dance and invocations in ceremonies performed at sites of power in order to wake up the telluric forces that have been asleep since ancient times.
Íñigo Ugarteburu is a basque composer and artist. He uses a wide palette of guitars, horns, woods, ukuleles and a myriad of other instruments in mostly instrumental pieces. He has taken part in festivals like Sónar and Ertz with avant-garde folk groups like Carcáscara and Café Teatro. Although he lives in London, he is closely linked with his homeland, where he is a member of the basque music collective Arto Artian.
Borealis Is the personal project of the Asturian guitarrist Eduardo Suárez. Former member of Full Shot Noise (Metalcore), Audiotrack (Post Rock) or Echtra (Kraut Rock), he started experimenting with other sounds even before joining these bands, until releasing a first EP as Borealis in 2008, in a line of acoustic post rock. Apparently minimalist and repetitive, halfway between the primitive, the ambient and the drone-folk, he makes tense and landscape music and keeps a delicate balance between primitivism and neatness, between intimacy and intensity.
Edu Comelles Comelles is working since 2006 in sound composition. His works have been published by several labels such as Resting Bell, Berlin, Test Tube and Impulsive Habitat, Portugal and Audiotalaia, Spain. He has participated in festivals in Stockholm, Vienna, Madrid, Mexico, Bristol, London, Valencia and Barcelona. His work has been exhibited in the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid, the CCCB in Barcelona, at the MUAC Mexico City, the Sierra Centro de arte or LABoralCentro de Arte in Gijón. He runs the sound art festival Off_Herzios based in the city of Valencia, with Carlos Flores.
dot tape dot. Daniel Romero has spent over 15 years exploring electronic music and multimedia art. Under the name of ".tape." (aka dot tape dot), he has released records in Spain (Spa.rk), Japan (Nature Bliss), United States (Other Electricities), France (Optical Sound & Aspic Records, Eglantine Records) and Germany (Mira Recs).. Since 2003 he leads the ambulatore.com collective and directs the mini net label yoyo pang! He has presented sound installations and audiovisual performances worldwide 2008 began to compose music for plays directed by Rodrigo García or John Romao/Colectivo84 . At present he collaborates and works with artists from various fields, including Fernando Gutiérrez and Aroah (Irene Tremblay), and he is responsible for the Sound LAB of LABoral.
Julia Drouhin She has done performances, radio creations and installations since 2003. She coordinates the Radiophonic Creation Day with Coraline Janvier, as well as the festival Kontact sonoreS in Burgundy, France. Julia Drouhin has been a researcher for the Dark festival at MOFO (Museum of Old and New Art) in Tasmania, where she currently lives.
Ramón Prada aka vittus is one of the most recognised young composers in Asturias. He has a vast and solid classical training, his eclectic music has crossed frontiers merging styles and opening to the use of new technologies. He has composed and premiered works for orchestra in Spain and abroad, with a great success of critic and public. Composer for artists like Hevia, Víctor Manuel, Joaquín Pixán and author of symphonic music, soundtracks, chamber music and sound spaces for the stage. His works have been played around the globe and he currently uses electronics and live manipulation of sound in his concerts.
Sebastien Roux Started out in music as a guitar player in several rock bands and then he moved to electronic compositions. Since then he has developed an eclectic career, which includes solo albums or collaborations with musicians such as Greg David, Vicent Epplay and Eddie Ladoire, where one can find from electroacoustic music to improvisation, or even audiovisual experimentation and dance music. He has performed all over Europe, Australia and the United States in several festivals.
Mark Fell He is widely known for combining popular music styles such as electronica and techno with more computer-based compositions, with a particular emphasis on algorithmic and mathematical systems. His recent musical practice has become increasingly informed by non-Western music. Fell also produces installation pieces, often using multiple speaker systems. He received an honorary mention in the digital music category at Prix ARS Electronica, and was shortlisted for the Quartz award for his contributions to research in digital music
